Trust me, this is the one
I researched about 30 other phone lock boxes on Amazon before buying this let me tell you why I pulled the trigger on this one first of all it's completely changed my workflow and I can now stay on task for time blocking during my work day which I've failed at doing that for years prior to getting this lock box so this may be my top recommended tool for people who are looking to be more efficient kick their phone addiction or live a more screen free life.
But will it fit your phone? While it's large enough to fit most popular smartphones comfortably it definitely depends on the case that you have. See how my iPhone 12 Max Pro fits in with a pretty minimal case, but just so you know the interior dimensions of the lock box are 7.2 inches in length 3.4 inches in width and it's just about a 1/2 inch deep reliably so if you measure your phone with its case on you'll know if it fits.
My Favorite Thing
My favorite thing about this lock box is that you can choose to have your phone face up or down inside of the box which you can't do on lots of other products that don't have the clear front, or really are just a gian box with a lid and no front at all. (I use this for sweets in the kitchen. See that post here).
With this clear front feature, if you want several hours of completely uninterrupted work time put it face down if you want a distraction free period of your workday but maybe expecting an important message or call at some point, put it face up. This works really well for me because our exterior office door buzzer goes to my cell phone to buzz in packages or guests, so I can still answer those calls to buzz people in while enjoying a distraction free chunk of work time.
While it's face up you have minimal ability to access apps which still helps you stay focused and productive during work hours. And if you're seriously still trying to doom scroll TikTok while your phone is locked up like this you'll look silly enough that it'll make you re-evaluate your addictions and the box has served its purpose.
Has It 10x'd My Productivity?
Honestly after a couple months of using this lock box it was the act of putting my phone in the box that became the habit trigger for me. So oftentimes I'll just put it in there face down without locking and I don't look at my phone for hours because of it. Seriously, I'll have worked up until I need to leave the house and I'll spend 10 minutes searching for my phone because I have no idea where it is. I've completely forgotten about it for that long I think I've left it outside in the dumpster. So I'd say this reliably ups my productivity by at least 10x.
Technical Features
A few technical features include locking the box for up to 99 hours if you need it. I typically go for four hour blocks for the overnight nighttime routine but I have enjoyed the full weekend dopamine detox because of this phone lock box. And if you have an emergency the lock box allows five emergency unlocks by pressing the hour up button 10 times. It also has an impressive battery life I've been using it for over two years and have only charged it a few times. It charges either with micro USB or USBC. And by the way, you can still charge your phone while it's locked up, which is particularly useful if you want to lock it at night.
Is It Right For You?
This phone lock box is perfect for anyone who wants to break their phone addiction or stay distraction free during office work hours. No joke. No caveat. Just the truth. This wouldn't be for you if your job is fully reliant on your phone....but I hope that's fairly obvious.
But if it's not right for your work life, I should say that I also use it to create a screen free environment before bed and to make sure I stay off my phone when I wake up. It would also be an excellent tool for parents looking to monitor their children's screen time. Honestly it's a must-have for anyone who wants to enjoy a more balanced and Screen free life
